Technical Manager - Greater Manchester
Smart4Sciences is working with a specialist manufacturer within the construction materials sector to recruit a Technical Manager for their site in the North West.
This is a senior opportunity for a technically experienced professional with a strong polymer background and experience leading people within an R&D, NPD or technical environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of the technical function, supporting product development and bringing new products to market.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technical and R&D function, overseeing new product development.Develop and improve polymer-based products through to commercialisation.Manage, mentor and develop the technical team.Drive product improvement and technical innovation.Oversee testing, validation and product performance.Work closely with manufacturing to support product scale-up.Collaborate with senior leadership and wider business teams.
Requirements
Degree qualified in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related discipline.Significant experience working with polymers within R&D, NPD or a technical environment.Proven experience managing or leading a technical or R&D team.Experience taking products from development through to commercialisation.Strong project management and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and people-management skills.
Desirable Experience
Background in insulation, membranes or construction materials.Experience with polymer films, coatings, adhesives, laminates or similar materials.Experience within a manufacturing environment.
Salary: £55,000 - £75,000 depending on experience
Location: Greater Manchester

This is a senior leadership role with full responsibility for the QA and QC functions, driving the site's quality strategy and ensuring compliance across manufacturing, licensing and parallel import operations.

You will play a key role in maintaining an inspection-ready environment, leading regulatory audits and acting as the primary contact for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

We are working with a leading manufacturer within the construction materials sector to recruit a Technical Manager for their site in Bolton.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technical professional to take ownership of the company's entire technical function, leading product innovation, research and development, and the successful launch of new products to market. Working closely with senior leadership, you will drive the development of advanced insulation and membrane products while managing and developing a growing technical team.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the company's technical function, overseeing all Research & Development and New Product Development activities.
* Drive the development of innovative polymer-based products from concept through to commercial launch.
* Manage and develop the technical team, providing leadership, mentoring, and performance management.
* Identify opportunities for product improvements, innovation, and market differentiation.
* Oversee product formulation, testing, validation, and performance evaluation activities.
* Ensure new products meet relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
* Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Commercial teams to support successful product launches.

Requirements

* Degree educated in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline.
* Strong background within Research & Development or New Product Development environments.
* Proven experience working with polymer-based materials and products.
* Previous experience leading, managing, and developing technical teams.
* Strong understanding of product development processes from concept through to commercialisation.
* Experience within insulation products, construction materials, membranes, or related manufacturing sectors would be highly advantageous.
* Excellent project management and organisational skills.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the business.
